Modern UAE

Modern UAE (1971 CE – Present) began with the union of the seven emirates under the leadership of Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan. In just a few decades, the UAE transformed from a region known for fishing, pearl diving, and trade into a global center for business, tourism, innovation, and culture, with major cities such as Dubai and Abu Dhabi leading its development. In 1971 The United Arab Emirates is founded on 2 December 1971 by six emirates: Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Sharjah, Ajman, Umm Al Quwain, and Fujairah. Sheikh Zayed becomes the first President. In 1972 Ras Al Khaimah joins the federation, completing the seven emirates. In 1973 The UAE adopts the UAE Dirham (AED) as its national currency. In 1981 The UAE becomes a founding member of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC). In 1999 Opening of the iconic Burj Al Arab hotel in Dubai. In 2004 Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan passes away. Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan becomes President. In 2010 Opening of the Burj Khalifa, the world's tallest building. In 2014 The UAE launches its first national space initiatives and expands investment in science and technology. In 2020 The UAE launches the Hope Probe mission to Mars and signs the Abraham Accords. In 2021 The UAE celebrates its 50th National Day (Golden Jubilee) and hosts Expo 2020 Dubai. In 2022 Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan becomes President of the UAE. In 2023 The UAE hosts COP28, the United Nations Climate Change Conference in Dubai. In 2024–Present Continued growth in technology, renewable energy, artificial intelligence, tourism, and space exploration.
