Did ancient children go to school?

Some did! In Mesopotamia, students went to a "tablet house" to learn cuneiform writing by copying signs onto clay over and over.

School could be strict, and not everyone got to go — often only boys, and usually from richer families. Many children learned a trade from their parents instead, like farming, weaving, or pottery.
