The first wheels

The wheel is one of the most important inventions ever — but it didn’t start with carts. The very first wheels, in ancient Mesopotamia, were used by potters to shape clay pots!

Only later did people turn wheels on their side, add an axle, and build vehicles. Sometimes the biggest ideas come from looking at an old tool in a brand-new way.
