Who invented paper?

Paper was invented in ancient China about 2,000 years ago. Before that, people wrote on bamboo strips (heavy!) or silk (expensive!).

An official named Cai Lun mashed up tree bark, rags, and old fishing nets into a pulp, pressed it flat, and let it dry into thin sheets. Cheap, light paper changed how the whole world shared ideas.
