Pandora’s box

In Greek myth, Pandora was given a mysterious jar (often called a box) and told never to open it. But she was so curious that one day she lifted the lid.

Out flew all the troubles of the world. Frightened, she shut the lid — and trapped one last thing inside: Hope. The Greeks told this story to explain why, even in hard times, hope always remains.
