Who built the pyramids?
For a long time people thought enslaved people built the pyramids — but they didn’t! They were built by thousands of skilled Egyptian workers who were paid in food, beer, and a place to live.
The workers lived in a town right next to the building site. Archaeologists even found their bakeries and the bones of the fish and cattle they ate.
It took around 20 years and over 2 million blocks of stone to build the Great Pyramid. Each block was as heavy as a big car!
